Akamuti Akamuti  Ref: AK1
Akamuti bring us their range of people & planet friendly skincare with an emphasis on wildcrafted & organic ingredients. Their selection of 100% natural, chemical & paraben free herbal balms, creams & lotions are nourishing blends to protect, heal & care for your skin. Choose from rejuvenating face creams, refreshing foot cream, soothing lip care, caring hand creams, moisturising baby creams & natural soap, shea butter bodycare & much more.....

Akamuti is a dynamic, family team with a keen interest in herbs & tree medicine, whose home can be found in the rolling countryside of rural West Wales. This stems from our enthusiasm for green & natural living. This includes a holistic way of farming, eating & healing where everything is done without the intervention of man-made chemicals. Their products reflect their enthusiasm for a pure, green and natural living - their ingredients are totally natural and so is the end product.

Akamuti is an African word taken from the Bemba language of Zambia. It has two meanings. It translates as 'Little Tree' or 'A Little Bit of Medicine!, which shows that in many parts of Africa, trees and medicine are one and are revered as powerful sources of healing. Tree ingredients are very important in Akamuti's products and the team feel that trees are not only essential for our health but also for the health of the whole planet.

Fair Trade
Akamuti's use of fair-trade, organic beeswax, honey, shea butter and tropical oils help to empower small, vulnerable communities in other countries. Their organic forest beeswax & honey is fairly traded with Miombo beekeepers in Zambia, helping to preserve tribal communities & the forests that they live in. Akamuti's organically grown shea butter is fairly traded with womens' co-operatives in Togo, helping to fund renewable energy projects & provide better amenities.

Every product from Akamuti is handcrafted from individual ingredients by real people (not machines!) They start off with chunks of beeswax; slabs of tree butters; loose herbs, barks, resins & flowers; jugs of golden oils & aromatic distillates. Their loose herbs & resins are infused in oil then filtered & pressed before they are added to Akamuti's recipes. The waxes & butters are melted & then blended with the other ingredients; adding extra treats such as, spoonfuls of organic honey, drops of pure essential oils and aromatic flower waters. (Absolutely no chemicals are added at any stage!) At Akamuti, each product is made in small batches to ensure that our customers receive their creams as fresh as possible, with as much shelf life as possible. After whipping the creams, they are individually hand-spooned into jars & bottles. Finally, each jar is labelled with their own design labels, to complete a truly handcrafted product.

Animal Testing
Since formation, Akamuti has never & will never use any ingredients that have been tested on animals or involved in animal testing. All of their ingredients & products are tested on willing individuals.

FAQs
How long will Akamuti products last without preservatives?
All Akamuti creams have a 12 month shelf life & the balms have a shelf life of min 18 months. As with the rest of our brands, we do recommend keeping products out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place. All raw ingredients are safety tested for bacteria content, including streptococus & e-coli. Bacteria will only form when some "foreign body" enters the mix. This can be introduced after the jar has been opened so it is always advisable to ensure a high standard of hygiene when using the product. We would recommend using a spatula for removing any cream from its pot - this minimises bacteria contamination.

Does water encourage bacteria growth in Akamuti's creams?
The waters used in their creams & lotions, are distilled flower waters (a by-product of the essential oil process) & they themselves , being distilled are ideal to make creams as they are more "unfriendly" to bacteria than 'ordinary' water.

How long will the virgin shea butter last?
The fair trade shea butter is preservative-free but is naturally a long-life product. It will never go 'off' but is at its most fresh , with its vitamins most potent, during the first 18 months.

Are Akamuti's face creams greasy? A higher percentage of nourishing plant oils does makes Akamuti's creams fairly dense and rich so they need to be applied sparingly. (This is more economical, as a little goes a long way!) Your skin will benefit in the long run because the oils remain in the skin layers for longer, so imparting their nutrients & replenishing qualities. Mass-produced creams are made non-greasy & “lighter” by adding water & reducing the oil content (the majority of oils in conventional creams are petrol derivatives). The best moisture replenishers are oil rich products. This is why mainstream face creams are so ineffective on the skin because they contain a large percentage of water. This makes your cream feel incredibly whippy & it 'soaks in' almost instantly. Actually, it hasn't soaked in at all - it has simply evaporated into the air! Another downside is that the water also drys your skin out further. Akamuti's creams contain hydrolats or flower waters, which have therapeutic benefits on the skin. Akamuti make their creams lighter by adding thinner oils such as grapeseed & evening primrose. This allows their creams to travel right through every layer delivering nutrients & literally feeding your skin.
