	Dr Bronner Ref: DB1 Emanuel Bronner was a third generation master soap-maker from an orthodox Jewish family in Heilbron, Germany, where he was certified as a master soap-maker. He was the heir to the family's soap factory and business, but rebelled against his father and went to the United States in the late 1920's. Dr. Bronner initially worked as a consultant to various soap companies in the U.S. However, most such companies were converting to the complicated synthetic surfactant formulations that comprise modern body care products, so he struck out on his own in the late 1940's. His ecological castile soaps and message of peace resonated powerfully with the counter-culture of the 60's and 70's, and he became an icon of the time. His soaps are still made with the same care and integrity that Dr Bronner's customers have loved and lathered with for 50 years. The soaps are now made with certified organic oils, certified under the USDA’s National Organic Program. Animal testing Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps are on the BUAV's list of Humane Cosmetics Standard approved companies selling non-animal tested cosmetics. The BUAV and animal protection groups from around the world have developed this standard to indicate products which are genuinely cruelty-free. Companies which join the standard have to undertake that they will no longer conduct or commission animal tests; and will not purchase animal tested ingredients from suppliers after a fixed cut-off date.
